Tragic death in Zipp family
On Saturday, June 5th while on the way to a wedding, long time Zipp employee Jim Douglas lost his life when the bridal van he was traveling in was involved in a crash in Indianapolis, IN.
According to an article in the Indy Star, witnesses to the fatal crash involving the wedding party have told police that the shuttle bus carrying the bride and groom and others ran a red light and hit another vehicle. That crash Saturday resulted in the death of a groomsman, and many in the wedding party ended up at Methodist and Wishard Memorial hospitals for treatment of their injuries.
Zipp confirmed that the groomsman was indeed Zipp employee and long time friend Jim Douglas who lost his life in the tragic car accident on Saturday. Zipp also reported that Douglas was the only one involved in the accident to sustain fatal injuries.
The Indy Star further reported that Investigators said toxicology test results were pending but alcohol did not appear to have been a factor.
According to Zipp, Douglas had been a Zipp employee since 2002. He first worked for Zipp as a Customer Service Representative, was then promoted to International Sales Representative, stepped up to become the SRAM Road Program Manager and most recently had taken on the role as the Zipp Wheel Product Manager.
"He is well known throughout the cycling community for his sense of humor, work ethic, and love for Zipp," stated Zipp in a press release.
Douglas is survived by his life-partner, his 9-month old child, his parents, and his sister.
