Von Allmen, Gartner win Israman
Switzerland’s Konrad von Allmen battled 100 kilometer winds, sandstorms and rain to take a 33:53 margin of victory at the 10th Iron-distance Israman Triathlon in Eilat, Israel, February 27. Von Allmen, who has finished Ironman Hawaii six times, said the daunting conditions were “the worst he has ever seen,” as he struggled to finish in 9:54:53.
Only slightly less heroic were half Israman winners Mario Gartner of Austria, who finished in 5:12:27, and former ITU pro competitor Nina Pekerman of Israel.
