Wellington third in NYC

Chrissie Wellington stepped up to a new challenge in NYC and competed in the Empire State Building Run-up. The 4-time Ironman World Champion earned a podium spot and finished well overall.

German Thomas Dold ran the 1576 steps and 86 flights in 10:28 and took the men's title just ahead of fellow German Christisan Riedl, but for Dold this is slowly turning into a routine, as this was the 7th consecutive title for the 27-year old.

Kiwi Melissa Moon took the women's race in 12:39 and thus successfully defended her title, but Wellington's 13:15 was quite impressive and gave her a third place.

Wellington though wasn't the only triathlete competing, 4th placed Erika Aklufi had been quite active in the LA triathlon scene and there are a few others who also have connections with triathlon.

441 men and 225 women finished this very tough stair climb to the 86th floor observation deck and more importantly raised more than $475,000 for the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
