What We Have Noticed: Canada ….
In this edition we noticed a secret training operation in Canada, the creative and kind spirit of Team Wurtele, a Swede in Flanders, the availability of Spherovelo in the USA, and a clever Canadian luge themed political message spot.
Secret Canadian training
What: Jonathan Caron was recently spotted on the frozen Skaha Lake in Penticton, BC Canada barefoot and in his Orca wetsuit with a big axe. With this lake so close to the Challenge Penticton course word has it that Caron might be up to some secret training for the race – but this will likely backfire now. He can expect hordes of triathletes to invade that lake to get a good shot at early swim training.

Wurtele Originals
What: Heather and Trevor Wurtele are popular Canadian Pros who have shown great creative energy with some of their videos and now you can own part of their creativity and feel good about it too. The Wurteles designed 3 t-shirts that are sold through the athlete originals site and100% of profits will support the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign! I personally favored the red maple leaf one, but as we said, there are 3 different designs in a big variety of colors. So there should be something to suit your style.

Visiting Flanders
What: Emma Johannson is a Swedish pro for Team Orica – Green Edge and she spends 6 months out of the year in the Flanders region of Belgium. In this 2:46 long feature for a regional tourism site she recounts what she enjoys and has noticed about Flanders. Before the clip was over I looked for my passport to trace the pedal strokes of Johannsen and see Flanders some time soon. But ideally when the weather is a bit more hospitable. Visit Flanders also has a variety of other clips along those lines. Well done indeed.

Spherovelo arrived
What: I often have been asked about the very cool run-along bikes my boys have and my response has been 'these Spherovelo bikes are absolutely awesome but somewhat of a nightmare to get' and that usually is followed by 'will you sell them when your kids are done with them?' The answer has always been 'no' but now it appears that you can order them easily via Amazon in a variety of colors. We have two of them and Jordan Rapp’s son also has one of these oh so cute little bikes that allow kids to move around independently starting at about 12 months of age. The support wheels can later be taken off. What is stopping you now?

Humorous inclusion
Just in time for the Winter Olympics the Canadian Institute of Diversity and Inclusion launched a clever luge themed spot that strikes at the heart of the anti gay politics in Russia. The music is well chosen too and it is difficult not to smile at this witty Canadian spot.
