Wilde and Taylor Brown dominate Super League Triathlon Toulouse
Pro Women
The Toulouse venue included a river swim, and tight and twisting urban course designed to shake up the standings. The top picks include both Taylors – Olympic silver medalist Taylor-Brown and series leader Taylor Spivey – and returning French star Cassandre Beaugrand.
Taylor-Brown had work to do after a bike crash made her chances slimmer at the last Championship Series race in September at Malibu, with Spivey leading by a point over her British rival going into Toulouse,
When Taylor-Brown took Stage 1 and Stage 3 of the Triple Mix race, taking the day’s overall win and linking the Brit and the Yank in a dead heat at 56 points for the women after the Fourth Round of the 2022 Super League Triathlon Series. The two leading women have ascended into a higher realm as third place Sophie Coldwell of Great Britain has 39 points and Beth Potter of the UK stands 4th with 36 points.
Today’s format saw the Triple Mix in play with the Super League Triathlon’s eliminator format that sees athletes pulled from the race if they drop 90 seconds behind the leader at the end of a lap
The mixes:
Stage One: Swim: 300m/Bike: 4km/Run: 1km
Stage Two: Run: 1km/Bike 4km/Swim: 300m
Stage Three: Bike: 4km/Swim: 300m/Run: 2km
Stage 1
Swim
The SLT’s river swim saw the Scorpions of Beaugrand, Taylor–Brown and Aussie Emma Jeffcoat surrounding the Eagles’ Rainsley. After the opening 200 meters, Beaugrand led the exit after 3:35, with Rainsley, Jeffcoat and Taylor-Brown on her toes and leaving Taylor Spivey 9 seconds arrears and Klamer of the Netherlands and Potter 13 seconds back. First to exit Rainsley earned the short chute pass.
Bike
By the end of the first lap of four, Taylor-Brown took the lead and proceeded fearlessly at top speed – no nightmares lingering from her Malibu crash. However, no easy pass for Klamer as she crashed hard, her wrist clearly in pain. Taylor-Brown and Jeanne Lehair then settled into the led. By the end of the Lap 3, Lehair slipped into T2 first with a short chute pass grabbed for her Rhinos teammates..
Run
Lehair had to surrender her lead as Taylor- Brown’s high horsepower legs propelled her once again to the front. Despite suffering a cold, Taylor-Brown jetted away to lead Stage 1 by a 10 seconds margin over Lehair with Coldwell 15 seconds behind, and series leader Spivey 21 seconds arrears.
Stage 2
Run
Potter and Beaugrand pushed to the front on the 1km run, but Taylor-Brown’s mighty run was shadowing closely until Beaugrand’s power created a 10-meter gap.
Bike
Beaugrand’s lead was erased by her clumsy entry to her shoes. So Rainsley, Lehair and Taylor-Brown took the lead. A 10-rider breakaway led by the Cheetahs of Steinhauser and Coldwell created a 10 seconds gap ahead of the chase pack. Spivey’s lightning-quick transition then made up for her deficit and she entered the Garonne River in the lead.
Swim
Spivey then took charge at Stage 2’s 300-meter swim, giving her a win. Coldwell came 4.5 seconds back, with Taylor-Brown 6 seconds arrears.
Stage 3
Bike
The Pursuit Stage showed Taylor-Brown quickly open up a 13 seconds gap. Halfway through the bike, Taylor-Brown had clear sailing as Spivey lost more time on her bike mount. Approaching T2, Taylor Brown had a 15 seconds lead on Coldwell and 20 seconds on Spivey
Swim
Taylor Brown glided through the 300-meter swim maintaining her 20 seconds lead which she held through the swim. Spivey, forgetting to take the short chute, gave away time and points.
Taylor Brown enjoyed clear sailing through the swim, while Coldwell passed Taylor Spivey. Beaugrand tried to run back into medal contention, but Spivey finally used her short chute pass to secure her silver, Coldwell took third, and Beaugrand took 4th and Potter secured 5th.

“It was super close out there today, which made for some good racing. I had some good swims today and waited for the last round to put my head down and go for it on the bike. That gave me a good buffer and it was great to run away with it.
— Hayden Wilde
French racer Dorian Coninx scored a rousing second place, with Japan’s Kenji Nener taking third in what the Japanese athlete labeled “the race of his life.”
